Fear in Fast Forward

Have you ever been presented with a great opportunity but became overwhelmed by fear? It’s not the future opportunity that I fear but the comfortable past that I would be leaving behinds that frightens me. But what is life without risk?

Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best: “What we seek we shall find; what we flee from flees from us.”

I don’t regret much in life but the very few things I do regret are opportunities that I let slip by due to my own complacency. Breaking out of the habit means trusting myself to follow the untested paths to see if it truly leads to my heart’s desire.

Call of the Weird

I think I’ve found my purpose in life: to attract, embrace and engage the weird.  I mean, how else can I explain all of the odd things that have happened and continue to occur in my life?

Zambia is the perfect place for me to indulge myself in cases of the weird: the drunk man wearing women’s shoes and nail polish, fleeing from a minibus that catches on fire while screaming goats struggle to break free from underneath my seat, the headmen that profess their desire to make me #4 in their series of wives/slaves/concubines

Even back in the States, I’ve also caught a case of the weird, but, you know what?

I must be weird myself, huh?

Curiosity killed the cat, but where human beings are concerned, the only thing a healthy curiosity can kill is ignorance.
